The Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce (HNWCC) presented Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM) with and award honoring its efforts during Hurricane Harvey.
The Harvey’s Heroes Award plaque, sponsored by Spring ISD Superintendent, Dr. Rodney Watson, was presented to NAM at the HNWCC March Community Luncheon on Thursday, March 8.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by the Chamber for our work in the community,” says Brian Carr, NAM’s Chief Advancement Officer. “NAM is such a strong organization, and I’m proud of the way everyone pulled together during this disaster, working around the clock, driven by our mission to help our neighbors in need – it was amazing.”
The need for recovery assistance was so great that NAM established a department specifically for disaster relief, hiring a Director of Relief Programs and three disaster case managers.
NAM has raised over $5 million in relief funds and assisted more than 10,000 individuals impacted by Hurricane Harvey with food, clothing, hygiene products, rent and mortgage, utility bills, home repairs, furniture, vehicle repairs and replacement and business equipment.
NAM is also the recipient of grant funding from a variety of businesses, foundations, the United Way and the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund (HHRF). The grants from the HHRF, established by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and Harris County Judge Ed Emmett and managed by the Greater Houston Community Foundation (GHCF), supply recipients with funds to be used to provide programs and/or services to those affected by Hurricane Harvey.
